Marriage in Indian culture is not merely the joining of two individuals as man and wife but also of two families, two traditions, and even two outlooks of life. Among the cultures where marriage is valued, the Jain culture is notable for its focus on spirituality, non–violence, and ethical behavior. In Jainism, marriage is not just a physical union but a union that is spiritual and solely based on the philosophy and religious beliefs of Dharma. In this regard, the Jain marriage bureau is involved in the selection and matchmaking of grooms and brides and bears the responsibility of mediating between the contemporary practice of marriage and tradition.
